Neurolens is a company that specializes in the improvement of visual tracking and eye misalignment. They have developed a patented lens with a contoured prism that allows for correction at distance, intermediate, and near vision all in one lens. Neurolens has created equipment for optometrists to test a patient’s eye alignment, which then gives the doctor the amount of prism the patient needs in their lenses. There are symptoms that a patient may have that will flag the doctor to investigate Neurolens, such as headaches, dizziness, eye strain, and neck pain. When our patients come in, we provide a questionnaire regarding these symptoms to be filled out to determine if further testing is necessary.
Standard prescription glasses provide clarity for eyesight, while the Neurolens provide clarity as well as physically aligning the eyes to see. Some patients may complain that their eye drifts when attempting to focus. The Neurolens machine tells us if the patient is looking at the proper target when focusing, or if they are looking in front or behind it, which is demonstrated in the picture below.
Neurolenses can be made with or without a prescription and for single vision or as a progressive lens. Rather than just giving the patient clarity, this lens can also provide comfort in areas such as reading, neck pain, headaches and so much more. Most people are unaware of how much our eyes can affect the rest of our body, but Neurolens has proven to help our patients with vertigo, chronic migraines, and other medical conditions. Multiple success stories have come out of our office in connection with this lens for both our comprehensive eye exam patients as well as our optometric vision therapy patients.
These lenses have about a 90-day adjustment period and while this is longer than most corrective lenses, it is important to allow our eyes the time to adjust to working together. As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait!
